1066 Mantrailing and K9 Games

Using the theory that if dogs use their brain and their sense of smell it can tire them out as much as a good run, the dog parents decided to try out Mantrailing with Tycho.

Mantrailing involves searching for a person with your dog. There is no special equipment needed just a long line and Y shaped harness. At 1066 groups are kept small, work one at a time and wait in their own car between turns, so this seemed an ideal activity for ‘dog’ reactive Tycho.

After an introductory session you can book progression sessions at a variety of venues with the trails getting harder and more complex as the dogs get more experienced.Tycho really enjoyed this but was a bit too easily distracted to progress.

However, 1066 then started their K9 Games sessions. An obstacle course to navigate followed by fun food challenges. Tyke loves this. He has made real progress and his self confidence has increased enormously. He used to be wary about putting his face in anything - now he ‘pickpockets’ treats out of Mum’s coats!

1066 are also starting Trail Hunt International courses. This is a sport that teaches dogs to follow a scent trail to find a pod.

All of these activities are suitable for virtually all dogs and handlers whatever age, fitness or ability.
