Dog Walking Fields

Dog walking fields are fields or spaces for exclusive hire. Humans find these useful for dog training, using for dogs who have poor recall, exercising dogs that need to be isolated from other dogs like dogs on heat or dogs recovering from operations and also for reactive dogs who need a space where they feel safe. My brother Tycho is ‘fear reactive’, frightened of other animals, but loves people and so we visit fields like this regularly. These are some of our favourites that get my Scamp of approval!

Blackboys Dog Meadow: Uckfield, TN22 5JB. This is one of the bigger fields. Seven acres of fully enclosed dog meadow. So Tycho can have a really good run, stretch his legs and get in lots of good sniffing.

Etching Wood: Framfield Farm, TN22 5EW. As it says on the lid - a lovely wooded area with open spaces, trails and tracks. Only one and a half acres but the varied terrain make this definitely one of the more interesting fields. It is also nice and shady during hot weather.

Freedom Fields: A choice of three fields. One in Stone Cross (Freedom Bluebells, BN24 5BJ) and two in Battle (Freedom Run and Freedom Sniff TN33 0LS). All between one and a half and two acres with six foot fencing. I love the agility equipment (wins me treats!), there is a shelter if it rains and eco-friendly poo bags are supplied.

Heatherdene Hideaway: Hailsham, BN24 5BS. This is a two acre field with a six foot fence. There are lots of clumps of bushes and trees which make it great for playing hide and seek, but there is also plenty of open space for a game of ball.

Holmans Dog Walking Field: Little London, TN21 0AX. Definitely one of our favourites. A three acre field with six foot fencing and for an additional small charge, access to a seven acre field with four foot fencing. Lots of clumps of bushes and plenty of great sniffs. It feels like a real country walk. We once spotted deer in the neighbouring field!

The Big Barn: Hailsham, BN27 2RP. This is a really amazing place and a lifesaver for Tycho in the winter when other fields are water logged. There are four separate facilities:

  • The Big Barn: A huge indoor space with agility equipment. Plus some outside space.
  • The Fun Field: Two acres of grass, high fencing, obstacles and a shelter
  • The Sand Pit: A sandy based area with obstacles and a shelter
  • The Playground: A splash and dash play area with obstacles and a shelter

This wonderful venue is open from 6am to 10pm, 7 days a week. The barn and sandpit have coin operated lighting for the dark evenings. There is plenty of parking space ( with a two car limit for each facility). Fresh water is available plus dog treats and poo bags. There are also toilets and a vending machine available for mum and dad. This place is VERY popular so book well in advance!
